"Special" meeting in October?
by Esmeralda inquestion.
my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.
i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

My stepfather died tonight
by Mulan ini have just finished making phone calls informing the family of the death of my stepfather.
i was an adult when he married my mother, but i loved him very much.
he was a wonderful man.. although he was a faithful jw, for his entire life (he was born to it) he was a really good man, and a true christian, i believe.

Sorry to hear of your loss....
>He would never have listened to us, and the things we now believe, if he had been in his right mind at the time. In recent months, he would laugh and say he thought we had a good point. Mom would say he didn't know what he was saying, and she was right.
He sounds like a man at peace with God, a man who knew Jesus as his Lord and savior. (Speculation) He may have known much more than you realize and he could see you were on the right track. I think that he was saved and is now in heaven with our Lord God Almighty.

JW Kids Leave the Organization: Facts
by Maximus inthe october 1 watchtower 2001 features articles on training children "properly" and dealing with a "prodigal child.
the latest inside u.s. figures reveal that 86% of jw children leave the fold, with some 29% who eventually come back for reasons of family ties, most never "reaching out.
" that means over half leave permanently.

>(I have a picture in my head of God sitting on his throne, desperately trying to come up with some legal basis for pardoning a wayward kid.)
Hi Max,
John 3.16,17 covers that quite well. Now think in these terms: God revealed Himself in the N.T. in the person of Jesus Christ and in the person of the Holy Spirit, which also ended the Law Covenant dispensation and began a new one, the Church Age.
We are ourselves pardoned for our sin (Romans 3.23, 6.23) by seeking a personal relationship with Christ (John 14.6, John 3.3, Rev. 3.20) and we are saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2.8,9) and by belief that Jesus is God (I am) (John 8.24, Phil. 2.6-11, John 8.58).
Those few scriptures encompass all of the plan of salvation, the REAL gospel that JWs don't preach.

Comment to Fundie Sister-in-law
by Undecided ini have gotten a little mean in my old age.
my sister-in-law is a born again church of god life time member and sometimes is a little dogmatic.
i love to point out fallacies in her religious thinking.. this might have been a little unfeeling on my part but she was talking to my wife about a tragic happening in her life 26 years ago.

>She says God will have to reveal it to me. I'm waiting?
She has a point there, Ken. Your first step is to forget everything the Borg told you about other denominations. That is a real pile of crap.
Are you as amused as I am by the various riff-raff who chime in with insults directed at anyone with faith? I can always count on butterBoynenko, who probably fantasizes about spending a night with his hero, Alan F.

T.J.
Do you happen to know the difference between an immortal soul and a resurrected person? Our immortal soul is not a completion, it is disembodied and will receive the spiritual body at the time of the rapture. The Jews understood this, JWs never have.
Un
I fight against death because my Lord has not brought me home yet. He has me here for a purpose. This existence is the best that the 'lost' can ever hope to have, and, it is the worst a saved person can have.
We do often talk and pray for the rapture, or for us to be taken home when God's will is such.
Willy
It stands to reason that God in His mercy would not hold to account anyone who has no ability to grasp the idea of who Christ really is. A retarded person is another example and there are many more. Those children who have died are all home and with God as are the others who are not held accountable. BTW, read John 8.24 in any Bible except the NWT. To be saved you must know Jesus as "I am" or God.
BTW, 'doubts' and turmoil are evidence of our sinful nature.

You really blew it, Ken.
The woman was probably too nice to point out your ignorance of scripture and valid doctrine. You have been taught typical JW rationalism and you have no idea that the soul is immortal. Job knew that his dead loved ones had been called home to paradise (as the Jews believed, we know it as heaven) and he would see them in the afterlife. Plus, he had been blessed with even more when God restored things to him. He actually doubled his loved ones! Even those who are killed in earthly judgement are ahnging around in eternity, children are under no accountability.
Before you go making a fool of yourself again with a born-again Christian, you need to actually see what they believe and WHY they believe it!Silverleaf,
You need to quit painting all with one, wide brush. People are individuals and not 'fundys'. You will not find any less variety there than any other group, just much less psycholgical problems and disfunctional personalities.

Thanks Ozzie and Larc,
I do hope this can help others to stay out of the Watchtower cult. Let me know the reactions from any who read my testimony. For Naeblis: I hope you rmind isn't as closed as you portray it. There is a vast difference between JWs and any real Christian churches.
